How long do home water systems last?

Everything on this page moves, treats, holds or carries water, and the spread between them is enormous: a sump pump is a seven-year part, a buried clay sewer lateral is a two-hundred-year one. The warranty terms do not follow the same order. The shortest-lived machine here has three years of paper behind it; the longest-lived pipe has none at all. Every figure below is tied to the document it came from, with the tier of that document showing.

Two patterns run through the grid. The machines — softener, sump pump, well pump, pressure tank — carry short terms that split by component: ten years on a tank, three on a circuit board, one on the valve that actually fails, and labor stopping at the end of the first year on nearly all of them. The pipes go the other way, outliving any paper by decades, which is why the sewer line has no warranty bar to draw at all. The vinyl pool liner is the outlier in both directions at once: the longest headline term in the group at 25 years, one of the shortest service lives, and only the first three of those years are coverage rather than credit.
