How long does stone veneer last?
InterNACHI's baseline chart lists manufactured stone at 100+ years under siding — and lists man-made stone at 25 years a few headings above, in the same chart. Take the number carefully. The warranty is clearer than the chart: Eldorado's 50-year term is real and it does travel with the house, but it drops to 15 years the moment you are not the first owner, and it says in writing that the stone is not waterproof.

The chart's siding entry is "100+" with no upper figure, on a chart with no date of its own; the 120 here only bounds the drawing. Read it against the same chart's masonry section, which puts man-made stone at 25 years — the two entries do not agree with each other, and manufactured stone veneer has only been common on houses since the 1990s. What ends these walls is normally the water management behind the veneer, not the cast units on the front of it.

Manufactured stone is concrete, so freeze-thaw acts on it much the way it acts on brick: saturated units spall, dry ones do not. The real climate story sits behind it, though. In rainy regions this cladding has a documented history of holding water against sheathing where it went up without a drainage cavity and proper flashing, and nothing visible on the stone tells you which way a given wall was built.
What the warranty paper actually says
Eldorado Stone (Westlake Royal Stone) (Eldorado Stone Products 50-Year Transferable Express Limited Warranty) publishes a 50-year limited, transferable, conditional warranty. Fifty years is the original purchaser's number. The warranty does run with the sale of the house, but coverage for every later owner stops at 15 years from the original date of sale — a house sold in year 20 arrives with nothing. What is covered is narrow and specific: the units will not blister, peel, flake, delaminate or crack excessively as a result of manufacturing defects. Normal weathering, fading, chalking and efflorescence are named as expected behavior rather than defects. Everything around the stone is excluded by name — mortar, lath, weather-resistant barriers, sealants, flashings, sheathing and framing — and the document states outright that the product is not waterproof and that the maker has no responsibility for damage from moisture intrusion through the building envelope. Installation must follow the Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association's written instructions.

What shortens it
- No drainage gap or a blocked weep screed behind the veneer, so water that gets in has nowhere to leave
- Veneer carried down to grade or below it instead of holding the clearance the installation instructions call for
- Missing or badly lapped flashing at windows, doors, decks, and where the veneer meets a roof
- Mortar joints left unfilled or allowed to crack, which is where nearly all the water enters
- Sealers other than silane or siloxane, which trap moisture inside a concrete product built to breathe
Signs of wear to look for
- Cracked or missing mortar joints, and gaps opening where the veneer meets trim, windows or a roofline
- Individual stones loose, drummy when tapped, or fallen off the wall entirely
- Damp staining, moss, or efflorescence low on the wall that returns after every wet spell
- Rust bleed from the lath or its fasteners showing through the joints
- Faces flaking or delaminating, so the cast texture peels away from the body of the stone
Damp staining, rust bleed and loose stones are asking what the water behind the veneer has been doing to the sheathing and framing — that is an inspection question, not a web-page question.
